Ok this may have been covered before, but i just dont remember it. Crazy Fingers has always been one of my favorite dead tunes just due to the delicate nature of the music and the lyrics.

Any suggestions of some real sweet versions of this would be much appreciated - i need to know what versions i am missing that i should have.

Thanks in advance :)

October 82 at the frost. Playing>Fingers>lost sailor. The jam to gte them to sailor almost has an I Know you rider riff. Plus this gig has one of the Best looks Like rain as well.

Many people on this site say Dean Smith Center in 93. I don't see it by a long shot, but if your looking for good fingers many folks put that in high regard for some reason

One of my fav tunes that got to the gold ring so few times.
I may have the last three lines chiseled on my tombstone. Here's an old thread.

For an '80's take try this.

You have to throw away the idea of good vocals, but musically and the ability to create its own interior space it's worth a listen. That is always the problem w/CR after '76. You can't get all the components working together.

I'm a real snob when it comes to Crazy Fingers--one of my top 10 favorite tunes. I pretty much dismiss any version post-1976, which gets me in trouble with the 80's crowd (which, btw, is when I saw the lion's share of shows), but I just find the post-'76 versions very sloppy in execution and Jerry's vocals often brutal.

So: Agree that "One From the Vault" 8/13/75 is probably the best live version you'll find...the June run of shows in '76 contain some fine CF's, but my favorite version from that year is probably 12/31/76 on the "Live at the Cow Palace" New Year's release. Beautifully played--Donna sounds nice w/Jerry...lots of intricate and lovely jamming as well.

Oh, and it's hard to beat the Blues fo Allah album version--maybe the best-performed studio Dead song ever.

I agree with this selection, and I wasn't there. - and I think PG means 7/29/82.

PG - did you know they had broken out Crazy Fingers in Ventura and Tempe when you were at these shows? Or was it a total surprise?

We had heard about the Ventura breakout, and were anticipating a Red Rocks version, it just seemed like the perfect place to see it....what a great 3 days that was!!

There are so many great versions. The one I listen to the most is 9-29-82, in the clouds at Red Rocks. It had been raining all day and when Jerry started Crazy Fingers, the notes just seemed to slice throught the fog, It was very eerie and quite beautiful.

Sorry, It is 7-29-82, thanks for the heads-up Bopper!!

1982 was a great year for Crazy Fingers

check out 9/21/82 coming out of a Playin that opens the show at MSG. Strange set placement but very well done.

I love Crazy Fingers, great lyrics and a cool twisting melody.

I have reviewed, not thoroughly, the "Best Crazy Fingers" threads going back to this one.

Our good friend LIA recommended 6/22/1976 back when it was only available as an AUD.

I believe Charlie Miller uploaded this SBD in early 2011.

The Crazy Fingers>Comes A Time is stunning.

There was a recent thread in which you referenced the older thread. I skimmed both to verify no recommendations for 6/22/76.

Well worth a listen.
